in 1993, ID software would release it's most popular game, doom. in this a new generation of E-sports was created. because of it's deathmatch multiplayer and ease of modification, doom is still quite popular in casual multiplayer gaming, but at one time, it was the most popular game, ID software's next game, quake would be even more popular for a time, with one competition even having a grand prize of being the owner of john carmack's (one of the developers) ferrari 328.
